The Design Institute

October 2026 aiMe Gallery at Eko Hotel & aiMe Concept at Eko Atlantic

The inaugural exhibition from Casa Mouda, The Design Institute explores the evolution of design legacies in and around West Africa, positioning the region as a powerful, ongoing force in global design discourse.

Curated by Casa Mouda founder and creative director Caline Chagoury Moudaber, the exhibition brings together pioneering designers, rising talents, and members of the African diaspora whose work bridges heritage, innovation, and mentorship. Featuring Jean Servais Somian, Olu Amoda, Nifemi Marcus-Bello, Hajar Daide, Marie-Paule Tano, and Germane Barnes, The Design Institute traces the influence of designers and artisans who have reshaped material practice in West Africa and beyond.

The works — ranging from sculptural furniture to sustainable objects — reflect a deep engagement with craft and a commitment to building local industry and production networks. Many were developed in collaboration with local manufacturers through Casa Mouda's production initiatives, reinforcing Lagos's role as a center for design innovation and creative entrepreneurship.

The Design Institute is both a tribute to the past and a blueprint for the future — celebrating those who have shaped a sustainable, globally relevant design culture while activating the next generation of makers, thinkers, and entrepreneurs across Africa and the diaspora.

Also on view are objects from Baba Tree and People of the Sun, paintings by Midegbeyanevesho Ojisua, and a soundscape by Malloy James.
