Germane Barnes

Germane Barnes is an American architect and designer whose work investigates the intersections of architecture, identity, and heritage, with a particular focus on African diasporic narratives.

Based in Miami, where he is a professor at the University of Miami, Barnes uses humor, color, and history to reshape understandings of Black spatial experience.

His installations and objects connect material culture with storytelling, referencing West African design traditions, and his work has been exhibited widely — including at the Venice Biennale and MoMA.
